Flaticon: Free vs Premium Licences, Icon Formats and Annual vs Monthly Plans

Flaticon is one of the largest icon libraries online, run by the Freepik Company in Spain. It hosts millions of vector icons, icon packs, stickers, animated icons and interface icon sets. Most of it can be downloaded free; a paid Premium subscription changes what you may do with it and how much of it you can reach.

Whether a Flaticon purchase goes well comes down to three questions: do you actually need Premium, which format should you download, and which billing period fits how long the project will run.

What the free Flaticon licence allows

Free Flaticon icons can be used in personal and commercial projects, but with attribution. That means crediting Flaticon and the icon's author in a way the site describes, usually a line in a footer, credits page or description.

Free accounts also face download limits and cannot reach icons marked Premium. For a one-off school project or a blog post with a credit line, the free Flaticon tier is often enough.

Read the current Flaticon licence page before using an icon in a logo or trademark. Stock icons are generally not suitable as the core of a brand mark, whatever the plan, because you cannot own them exclusively.

What Flaticon Premium actually buys

The main thing Premium removes is the attribution requirement. For client work, apps and packaging, where a credit line is awkward or impossible, that alone justifies a Flaticon subscription.

Premium also opens the icons flagged as Premium-only, lifts or raises download limits and adds formats that free users may not get. The exact limits change, so check the Flaticon pricing page on the day you subscribe.

Freepik has at times sold combined plans that cover both Freepik and Flaticon content. If you also need stock photos or vectors, compare the combined plan with Flaticon Premium alone before buying.

Choosing a format

SVG is the right choice for websites and anything that needs to scale. It stays sharp at any size and its colours can be changed in code or in a vector editor.

PNG suits slides, documents and quick mock-ups. Download it at the largest size you might need, because a small Flaticon PNG blown up looks soft.

EPS and PSD are for print designers and Photoshop users. Flaticon also offers icon font and web embed options for developers; UIcons, the Flaticon interface set, is built for that use.

Keeping a consistent style

The most common Flaticon mistake is mixing styles. Lineal, glyph, flat, lineal colour and hand-drawn icons look wrong side by side. Pick one style and, ideally, one author or pack, and stick with it across the project.

Flaticon packs group icons drawn by the same designer, which guarantees matching stroke weight and corner radius. Start from a pack, then search inside that style when something is missing.

The Flaticon editor lets you recolour icons to brand colours before download. Collections let you save a project's set so a colleague can grab the same files later.

Before paying, search Flaticon for the ten icons your project needs most. If the free results already cover them in one matching style, Premium may be unnecessary; if the best matches carry the Premium badge, that answers the question.

Monthly or annual billing

A monthly Flaticon Premium plan suits a single project with a clear end date. Subscribe, download what you need, then cancel before renewal.

Annual billing costs less per month and suits freelancers and studios who reach for icons every week. The annual price is where percentage codes matter most, because the saving is taken off a larger sum.

Both plans renew automatically. Set a reminder and check whether icons downloaded during the subscription stay licensed after you cancel; Flaticon's terms have covered this, but read the current wording.

Where the Flaticon savings are

FLATICONFIjune24 — 40% offSHOW COUPON CODE
FLATICONFImay24 — $36 offSHOW COUPON CODE
FLATICONAnnual20 — 20% off annual plansSHOW COUPON CODE

The 40% code is the strongest if it still validates. Promotional Flaticon codes like this are often tied to a campaign window, so try it first and fall back if it is refused.

The $36 code beats 40% only on a plan costing less than $90. On a monthly plan the percentage is usually smaller in dollars, so compare both at checkout before paying.

The annual code is for annual billing only. Twenty percent off a year of Flaticon Premium is a real saving if you would renew anyway.

Flaticon codes do not stack, and most apply to the first payment only. Expect renewal at the standard price unless the terms say otherwise.

Common questions

Can I use free Flaticon icons commercially?

Generally yes, with attribution as described in the Flaticon licence. Premium removes the credit requirement.

Which Flaticon format should I download for a website?

SVG. It scales cleanly, weighs little and can be recoloured in CSS.

Do Flaticon codes apply to renewals?

Usually only to the first billing period. Check the renewal price shown before you confirm.

Can I use a Flaticon icon as my logo?

It is not recommended and may be restricted. Read the licence and commission an original mark instead.
