Harman Kardon sells speakers built as much for the shelf as for the ears: the transparent Aura Studio, the handled Onyx Studio, the Go + Play and Luna portables, the SoundSticks desktop set and a line of soundbars. The official store at harmankardon.com carries the current range and is the easiest place to check which generation of each model is on sale.
A good Harman Kardon order comes down to three things. Match the speaker to the room, know which generation you are buying, and decide whether you need Wi-Fi streaming or only Bluetooth.
Aura Studio or Onyx Studio
The Aura Studio is the model people recognise, a clear dome over a downward-firing subwoofer with ambient lighting. It spreads sound in all directions, so it works best in open space on a sideboard rather than jammed into a bookcase corner.
The Onyx Studio is the rounded, handled speaker with a fabric front. It projects forward, so it suits a spot against a wall, and it has a built-in battery, which the Aura Studio lacks. Check the product page for the battery life of the generation on offer.
Both are Bluetooth speakers first. If you want multi-room streaming over Wi-Fi, look at the Harman Kardon Citation range instead, where the store still lists it.
Count the generation number
Harman Kardon refreshes its speakers every few years and keeps the name, adding a number such as Aura Studio 4 or Go + Play 3. An older number is not a worse speaker by default, but it may lack a newer Bluetooth version, updated controls or the latest lighting modes.
The full model name appears in the product title and on the spec sheet. If a listing just says Aura Studio, open the specs to see which one it is before comparing prices with another shop.
When a Harman Kardon model is heavily discounted, check the number first. Clearance on the previous generation can be a real bargain, as long as you know that is what you are buying.
Portable picks: Go + Play and Luna
The Go + Play is Harman Kardon's big portable, with a stainless steel handle and enough output for a patio or a garden party. It is heavy for a speaker you carry, so think of it as something you move between rooms rather than pack in a bag.
The Luna is the smaller, lighter option and is built to handle dust and water, which makes it the better beach or bathroom speaker. Check the listed water rating before taking any Harman Kardon speaker near a pool.
SoundSticks on a desk
SoundSticks are the clear tube satellites with a bowl-shaped subwoofer, a design Harman Kardon has sold in several versions since 2000. The current set adds Bluetooth, so it plays from a phone as well as a computer.
Before ordering, measure the desk. The subwoofer sits on the floor or a shelf and needs its own space, and the two satellites work best at ear height either side of the screen.
Soundbars and TV sound
For a TV, Harman Kardon's soundbars, the Enchant and Citation lines where listed, connect over HDMI. Check whether your TV has an HDMI ARC or eARC port and whether a subwoofer comes in the box or is sold separately.
A bar is the better buy when dialogue is the problem. An Aura Studio beside a TV sounds impressive with music but does little to make voices clearer in films.
A separate wireless subwoofer still needs a power socket near where it will sit. Plan the spot before the box arrives.
Warranty, returns and the Harman name
Harman Kardon belongs to Harman, which Samsung owns, and Harman also runs the JBL brand. The Harman Kardon store has its own policy pages, so check the current return window and whether opened speakers can go back before ordering a model you have not heard.
Register the speaker after delivery so a warranty claim is simple, and keep the box through the return window. A large speaker like the Aura Studio is awkward to send back without its original packing.
Where the Harman Kardon savings are
The $180 off code makes most sense on a big Harman Kardon order, such as a soundbar with a subwoofer or a pair of Aura Studio speakers. On a small portable it may not apply, so check the minimum at checkout.
The $100 off code is the one to try on a single mid-priced speaker like an Onyx Studio. If both dollar codes are refused, the free shipping code still trims the total on heavier items.
Harman Kardon runs its own sales around Black Friday and other seasonal events. Compare the sale price with the coupon price, because a store-wide markdown can beat a fixed dollar amount on some models.
Enter one code, note the total, then try the next. Keep whichever gives the lower final figure before tax.
Common questions
Does the Aura Studio have a battery?
No. The Aura Studio runs on mains power. For a Harman Kardon speaker you can unplug and carry, look at the Onyx Studio, Go + Play or Luna.
Can two Harman Kardon speakers play together?
Many recent models can pair for stereo or link with others from the same line. The feature varies by model and generation, so check the listing before buying a second one.
Is the Harman Kardon store cheaper than other retailers?
Not always. The official store is where new colours and the full range appear, but large retailers sometimes discount older generations harder. Compare the exact model number, not just the name.
Are Harman Kardon and JBL the same company?
Both brands belong to Harman. They share some technology but are designed and sold as separate lines, with Harman Kardon focused on design-led home audio.
