K1 Speed: Race Packs, Licence Fees and Getting Your Money's Worth From Each Session

K1 Speed runs indoor electric go-kart tracks across the US and in a few other countries. You arrive, register, watch a short safety briefing and race a timed session against other drivers, with lap times on screen afterwards.

What decides whether a K1 Speed visit is good value is choosing the right race package, knowing the extra charges, checking the rules for younger drivers, and turning up at a quiet time.

How a K1 Speed race works

Each K1 Speed session is a short, timed race in electric karts. Electric motors give instant torque and no exhaust fumes, which makes indoor racing practical.

Results are ranked by fastest single lap rather than finishing position, so you can have a good session even starting at the back.

Your times are tied to your K1 Speed profile. Returning drivers can compare their times across visits, and some tracks run leagues or races for experienced drivers.

Single races, packs and memberships

A single race is fine for a first try. Most people want more once they have learnt the lines, and K1 Speed sells multi-race packages that cost less per race.

A pack of several races is worth buying if you are sure you will race more than once that day or will return. The first session is mostly learning the track; lap times usually drop sharply in the second and third.

K1 Speed locations have also sold memberships and prepaid race bundles for regulars. Check your track's current options, whether packages are valid at other K1 Speed locations, and whether they expire.

The licence and other extras

First-time drivers at K1 Speed have typically paid for a licence, which is valid for a period and covers registration. Budget for it on the first visit so the race price is not a surprise.

Helmets are provided. A disposable head sock is usually required under the helmet and may be a small extra charge.

Closed-toe shoes are required. Tie back long hair and avoid scarves or loose clothing.

Everyone signs a waiver before racing. Drivers under 18 need a parent or guardian to sign, so do it online in advance to save time at the counter.

Age and height rules

K1 Speed runs junior and adult karts, with minimum height requirements for each. Children who are too short for the adult karts race in separate junior sessions.

Check the exact height and age limits on your track's page before promising a child a race. Some tracks have different junior options, and staff will measure at the desk.

Adults who are new to karting should also be honest with K1 Speed staff about any back or neck problems. The karts sit low, have little suspension and pull firmly out of corners.

Mixed families cannot always race together if one child is junior-height. Plan the visit around that.

When to go

Weekday afternoons are usually the quietest time at a K1 Speed track. Weekend evenings and school holidays are busiest, with longer waits between races.

Quiet sessions mean fewer karts on track, cleaner laps and faster times. If you want to improve rather than just have fun, go off-peak.

Arrive 20 to 30 minutes early for your first K1 Speed visit. Registration, the waiver check and the safety briefing all take time, and a late arrival can push you into the next race slot.

Some K1 Speed tracks let you reserve a race time online. Where that is possible, book it rather than walking in on a Saturday.

Groups, parties and corporate events

K1 Speed runs birthday parties, team-building events and private races. Event packages usually include a set number of races, trophies or podium photos, and a reserved area.

Compare the per-person event price with buying race packs individually. For a small group, individual packs can be cheaper; for a larger group, a private race means you are not sharing the track with strangers.

Ask what happens if some guests are junior-height, and whether the event price includes licences and head socks.

Where the K1 Speed savings are

K1 Speed codes are percentage discounts on online bookings:

K1 SPEEDEXTRA20 — 20% offSHOW COUPON CODE
K1 SPEEDWELCOME-799X9JSW — 10% offSHOW COUPON CODE
K1 SPEEDWELCOME-3G2WJH2C — 10% offSHOW COUPON CODE

Try the 20% code first. It is the deepest K1 Speed discount available, and percentage codes are worth most on a multi-race pack or a group booking.

The WELCOME codes look like single-use first-visit codes, each issued to one customer. If one has already been used, try the other.

Codes usually apply to online purchases. Check whether they cover the licence fee and head sock, and whether they apply to events or only to races.

K1 Speed generally accepts one code per order. Buy the whole group's races in one transaction to get the percentage off the full amount.

Common questions

Do I need to book K1 Speed in advance?

Not always, but booking avoids long waits at busy times. Check whether your K1 Speed track takes reservations.

How old do you have to be to race at K1 Speed?

There are minimum height and age rules for junior and adult karts. Check your track's page.

Is the K1 Speed licence a one-off?

It has typically been valid for a set period, then renewed. Ask your track for the current terms.

Can a K1 Speed code be used on a party?

Sometimes. Event bookings often have their own pricing, so check the code terms first.
