HAY is a Danish design brand founded in Copenhagen in 2002, and us.hay.com is its US online store, priced in dollars. It sells furniture such as About A Chair and the Mags sofa, the Palissade outdoor range, lighting, and colorful accessories like Kaleido trays.
A HAY order goes well when you know which pieces ship as small parcels and which are larger furniture deliveries. Finishes and fabrics also matter, since they are hard to change once a chair or sofa arrives.
About A Chair and HAY seating
About A Chair, designed by Hee Welling, is HAY's best-known chair family. The number in each name marks the version, so an AAC 12 is a side chair without arms while an AAC 22 adds armrests.
The family comes with different bases and seat options, including wood legs, metal bases and upholstered seats. Compare the HAY product pages side by side, since two chairs with similar names can differ in base, height and price.
For counters and bars, the Revolver stool by Leon Ransmeier is a HAY classic. Check seat height against your counter before ordering.
Palissade outdoor furniture
Palissade is HAY's outdoor range designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, made from powder-coated steel in colors such as anthracite and olive. It includes lounge chairs, dining chairs, tables and benches.
Cushions for Palissade are usually sold separately. Budget for them if you want the lounge pieces to be comfortable, and store them indoors when not in use.
Read the HAY care notes for outdoor pieces. Coastal air and standing water are harder on any finish, so a cover or winter storage helps.
The Mags sofa and upholstery choices
The Mags sofa is a modular HAY design sold in several configurations, from two-seaters to corner and chaise layouts. Choose the configuration first, then the fabric.
Fabric choice can change the price and the lead time. Look at the fabric details on the HAY page, and order swatches if they are offered before committing to a color.
Measure doorways, stairs and lifts before ordering a large Mags configuration. Modular pieces help, but each module still needs to fit through the door.
Choosing HAY lighting
HAY lighting ranges from the cordless PC Portable lamp by Pierre Charpin to the Matin lamp by Inga Sempé, with its pleated shade. The PC Portable is rechargeable, which makes it easy to move from table to terrace.
Check the listing for bulb type and whether a bulb is included. Some HAY lamps take a standard bulb and some use integrated LEDs that cannot be swapped.
Matin comes in several sizes, from a small table lamp to floor versions. Compare the dimensions on us.hay.com before buying for a specific spot.
Accessories and gifts
HAY accessories include Kaleido trays by Clara von Zweigbergk, the stackable Colour Crate, glassware, kitchen tools and textiles. These are the most affordable way into the HAY look.
Kaleido trays come in several shapes and sizes designed to be arranged together. Buying two or three sizes in coordinated colors usually looks better than one large tray.
Accessories ship as small parcels, so they are also useful for building a basket up to a free shipping level. Check the current threshold at checkout.
Delivery, lead times and returns
Large HAY furniture may be made to order or shipped by freight, with longer lead times than accessories. Check the delivery estimate on each product page before planning around a date.
Inspect furniture on arrival and report any damage quickly. Keep the packaging until you are sure the piece is right.
Check the current us.hay.com return terms before ordering. Furniture, custom upholstery and sale items may be treated differently from accessories.
Where the HAY savings are
Try the 20% off code first on a furniture or lighting order. On a large HAY basket it saves far more than a flat amount.
The $15 off code suits a small accessories order. It beats 20% on a subtotal under $75, so compare both at checkout.
The free shipping code is worth trying on a small order where delivery would eat into the savings. Check whether it covers freight items before relying on it.
A single About A Chair or a PC Portable lamp is the kind of HAY order where the choice between codes matters most. Enter each one and keep whichever gives the lowest total, including shipping.
